Futsal is short for futebol de salão or fútbol sala, translating to “indoor football.” Played by teams of 5 with a slightly smaller and heavier ball, futsal is a fast-paced version of soccer played on the basketball court. Kick-ins replace throw-ins and goalthrows replace goalkicks, but otherwise the rules are familiar. The limited space requires players to possess great agility and control and make quick and smart decisions in order to have success.
